Allevyn Tracheostomy Dressing Features

  • Highly absorbent
    - Unique structure of this dressing enables it to absorb large amounts of secretions
    - Allevyn foam dressing prevents maceration and helps maintain the condition of the patients skin in the peristomal area
  • Easy to apply and remove
    - Key-hole aperture in dressing simplifies applications
    - Dressing may be cut to shape, if required
    - Removal of the dressing is simple and painless, causing minimal distress to the patient
  • Breathable film
    - Breathable OPSITE Film forms the outer surface of the dressing, preventing leakage of secretions through the front of the dressing, providing an easy clean surface and acting as a barrier to liquids
  • Non-adherent
    - Advanced design of dressing minimizes adherence to both the peristomal skin and the tracheostomy tube, reducing trauma for the patient during use and removal
  • Soft and conformable
    - Cushioned middle foam layer offers significant benefits in terms of patient comfort and protection
    - Non-fibrous construction also means that fiber shedding is not a problem, unlike traditional gauze dressings
  • Attractive appearance
    - Dressing has a clean, functional appearance which helps to reassure patients and their caregivers
    - High absorbency means that fewer dressing changes are required, which makes the dressing not only more cost-effective but also minimizes discomfort for the patient
  • - It is a soft, conformable non-adherent dressing indicated for the management of fluid, secretion, or exudate build-up associated with the use of tracheostomy tubes

  • Management of fluid
  • Secretion
  • Exudate build-up associated with the use of tracheostomy tubes

How to Use Allevyn Tracheostomy Dressing?

  • Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures.
  • Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the tracheostomy tube by removing excess moisture.
  • Fit the Allevyn dressing around the stoma or tracheostomy tube.
  • Apply the white, patterned surface of the dressing toward the patients neck
  • If required, the dressing may be cut to shape.
  • Additional fixation, such as Opsite Flexigrid Transparent Film Dressing or Hypafix Non-Woven Adhesive Dressing Sheet may be used to secure the dressing.
  • During the early stages of treatment, the tracheostomy site should be inspected frequently.
  • Allevyn Tracheostomy Non-Adhesive Apertured Hydrocellular dressings can be left in place undisturbed for up to 7 days, or until exudate is visible and approaches 3/4" from the edge of the dressing.

Removal of Foam Dressing Allevyn

  • Remove the retention dressing or bandage and lift the dressing away from the wound.

Precautions

  • Should not be reused.
  • Do not use dressings with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions (eg. Dakins) or hydrogel peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing.
